Caring for an Elder? There’s an App for You!
Elder Care in Springfield VA
There seems to be an app designed for every purpose imaginable. We went through the giant list of available software to find ones that are useful for family caregivers – both for the act of taking care of their loved ones and mentally recovering from the same.
Helping Hands
These four apps will make it easy to organize your busy schedule around the vast amount of variables that need to be tracked when caring for an elder.
1. Unfrazzle
Being frazzled implies feeling like you are being tugged in a thousand different directions, and it’s a feeling most caregivers can understand. This app requires a bit of customization, but once you have it set up, it can make your everyday tasks much more manageable through the use of scheduling for appointments, reminders for meals and medication, miscellaneous notes, and anything else you need it to do.
2. WebMD
WebMD is a popular online source of medical information. While you should always discuss health concerns with a primary care physician or other doctor, this app can help you in a pinch.
3. iPharmacy
A minor change in the shape or markings of a pill can throw off even the most seasoned caregiver. iPharmacy maintains an up to date database of medication so you can double-check the drug and dosage if you feel uncertain that they are correct. This app could literally be a life saver.
4. Elder 411
The “411” used to be synonymous with having all of the information necessary. Elder 411 channels that spirit and focused it towards giving caregivers everything they need to know about home care for seniors.
To Relax
Not everything needs to be about being more productive! These apps will help you wind down, relax, and otherwise decompress from a long day of taking care of your loved ones.
5. Fruit Ninja
Slice and dice with finger swipes through a never-ending horde of plant parts! Seeing the split husks fall to the ground while racking up points
6. Fallout Shelter
Based on the popular Bethesda series of post-apocalyptic role-playing games, Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a vault full of cheerful dwellers who are eager and willing to do whatever their overseer tells them to do.
7. Kindle
Kindle is an app designed for reading books. All of the books you own on Kindle are linked to your account, so you can go from reading on your phone while at a doctor’s appointment to browsing through the pages on your computer while sitting at your desk.
8. Lumosity
Lumosity is an app that combines several brain-teasing games that give your mind a bout of exercise while you distract it from a stint in the waiting room.
The best way to find new tools is to rely on the recommendations of your fellow caregivers, so please leave a comment with apps that have been helpful for you!
