National Noodle Month
Elder Care in McLean VA
No matter how varied and exciting you try to make your diet, there are some staples that you will always go back to because they are comforting, familiar, and delicious. This is especially true when you are on an elder care journey with your aging parent and you want to make sure that you are giving him meals that he will enjoy but that will also give his body what it needs, while also preparing something satisfying and tasty for your children, your partner, and yourself.
March is National Noodle Month, the perfect opportunity for you to celebrate one of the most common and most beloved of all kitchen staples: the noodle. While this simple food often gets a bad rap for being high in carbohydrates, noodles can actually be a healthful addition to your regular menu when you use them effectively. Noodles are a fantastic foundation for family favorite dishes such as pasta with meatballs, lasagna, or kugel, but that does not have to be the limit of your noodle dishes. These tasty tidbits are perfect for adding to soups and stews to stretch the more expensive ingredients, produce extra servings, and bulk up the satisfaction value of the meal with extra fiber, texture, and flavor. They can also be tossed with virtually any combination of flavors you can think of to produce a cold pasta salad that is both delicious and packed with nutritional value. Try sundried tomatoes, black olives, feta cheese, and Greek dressing, or cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, olive oil, vinegar, and oregano.
While you could go to the store and purchase dried noodles to use for your favorite dishes, making your own is a great way to celebrate National Noodle Month with an activity that will stimulate your parent’s mind and make fun memories with you or with his elderly health care services provider. Try this recipe for homemade egg noodles to create pasta that is versatile, delicious, and easy to make.
